What is an Industrial PoE switch?
Industrial PoE switches are often referred to as “hardened” or “ruggedized.” Commercial PoE switches are great for indoor “office” environments where temperatures and cleanliness are within normal parameters. However, these “regular” PoE switches are not sufficient for harsh environments that are extremely hot, cold, dirty, and moist. Industrial-grade PoE switches are built with hardened casings and are able to withstand extreme fluctuations in temperature, dirt, vibrations, and moisture.
What features should an industrial PoE switch have?
Because industrial-grade PoE switches are used in harsh environments, they should have the following features:
- The ability to operate in temperatures from -40°C to 75°C
- Should pass free fall, vibration, and shock test
- Equipped with dual power input for redundancy

What is the difference between regular PoE and industrial?
Industrial PoE has a much more hardened shell, allowing it to function at peak performance in an environment that would otherwise be damaging to electronic equipment. That harshness may include factory noise, dust, and temperature extremes of either hot or cold. Administrators may also opt for cables and connectors designed to withstand harsh conditions.
Why use industrial PoE?
